Scrubs is a medical comedy centered on John J.D. Dorian, a wide-eyed intern starting his residency at Sacred Heart Hospital. Alongside his confident, competitive best friend Christopher Turk, J.D. faces exhausting shifts, difficult cases, and the awkward transition from student to doctor. He’s challenged by the hospital’s demanding mentor Dr. Cox, tempered by the no-nonsense Chief of Medicine Dr. Kelso, and frequently outmaneuvered by the seemingly silent janitor who enjoys making his life harder. Meanwhile, nurse Carla keeps the chaos grounded, and fellow doctor Elliot wrestles with ambition, insecurity, and a shifting connection with J.D. Episodes blend sharp banter with imaginative cutaways from J.D.’s perspective, balancing laugh-out-loud absurdity with sincere reflections on friendship, responsibility, and growing up. Over time, the group’s bonds deepen as they learn what it takes to help patients and support each other.
