Intro

Will Yun Lee is an actor and martial artist whose screen roles include Harada in The Wolverine, the original Takeshi Kovacs in Altered Carbon and Dr. Alex Park in The Good Doctor. The contrast between these characters provides an immediate sense of his range: action-film conflict, a science-fiction story about identity and a continuing hospital drama demand different forms of presence. His career also includes voice acting and earlier television work, giving viewers several routes beyond the projects through which they first recognized him.

Career snapshot

His agency biography records study at the University of California, Berkeley, on a taekwondo scholarship. It also identifies Danny Woo in Witchblade among his television roles and lists films including Die Another Day, Elektra, San Andreas and Rampage. The martial-arts background belongs to his practical preparation, but the credits extend across different genres and production scales. The same biography lists voice roles as Mr. Wong in Wish Dragon and Joseph in Blade Runner: Black Lotus, adding animation to his screen work.

The entry point

Altered Carbon gave Lee a role whose identity is shared across bodies and performers. He plays the original Kovacs, while Joel Kinnaman and later Anthony Mackie embody other versions within the story’s system of transferred consciousness. Speaking to Character Media, Lee described building an earlier, more vulnerable person who could precede the hardened figure seen later. This offers a useful way to watch the performance: his scenes establish an emotional starting point, so continuity does not depend simply on matching another actor’s surface mannerisms.

Screen identity and style

In the same interview, Lee singled out the episode Nora Inu, which develops Kovacs’ relationship with his sister Reileen, played by Dichen Lachman, and with Quellcrist Falconer, played by Renée Elise Goldsberry. He connected the opportunity to play those relationships with questions of representation and the kinds of roles available to Asian performers. The episode therefore matters within his own account of the career. Its significance is not just the scale of the action, but the chance to occupy the center of a story with family and romantic ties.

Collaborations and patterns

Discussing the series with Looper, Lee explained how a fight with Mackie could communicate that both characters shared the same repertoire of movements. He treated the action as a form of characterization rather than an interruption of it. He also contrasted the brief preparation for that television encounter with a month spent rehearsing a fight involving Hugh Jackman on The Wolverine. The comparison illustrates how production circumstances shape an actor’s preparation without implying that every scene, or every production, follows the same timetable.

Era reflection

The Good Doctor supplies a different point of comparison through Dr. Alex Park, a role confirmed in ABC’s season-seven cast record. Set beside Kovacs and Harada, Park places Lee within an ongoing medical ensemble rather than the same physical and speculative circumstances. His credits need not be reduced to one kind of action performance. Moving between the hospital series, the science-fiction role and the animated voice parts gives a viewer a broader sample of the work than any single franchise can provide.

Legacy and rediscovery

The gallery contains a 2013 convention photograph and a 2026 New York premiere portrait, separated by more than a decade. They are distinct public appearances, with the later image recorded by its photographer at The Odyssey premiere. Neither is presented as a character still. Together with the selected roles, they make a chronological companion to a career that joins physical training, continuing television characterization and voice performance. For rediscovery, the actor’s own interviews are particularly useful in showing how he thinks about movement, vulnerability and collaboration.
