Roger Mobley built a substantial career as a young screen performer, moving between television Westerns, feature-film adventures and Disney productions. Audiences may recognize him as Packy Lambert in Fury or as the ambitious young newspaper worker in Gallegher. Those roles belong to different fictional settings, but both placed a young performer within an adult ensemble. His career is best approached through those specific productions rather than through unrelated people who share his name. The photographs here identify the actor in two separate early-1960s projects, before the first Gallegher broadcasts.
Mobley began performing with family members as a child. His career biography describes a singing trio and an appearance on Ted Mack's amateur program before his acting opportunities expanded. Disney's own archive records a particularly precise early appearance: the Mobley Trio performed on Talent Round-Up Day on the Mickey Mouse Club on January 10, 1958. This musical appearance predates the dramatic Disney roles that later made him familiar to family audiences. It also provides a useful reminder that his early entertainment work included live performance and music as well as scripted screen acting.
Fury gave Mobley the recurring role of Packy Lambert, while guest appearances placed him in other television settings. The first gallery photograph shows him on the right beside Earl Holliman in publicity for The Wide Country. The image's source dates it broadly to the 1960s; it does not establish an exact exposure date. The vehicle, cowboy clothing and interaction between the performers preserve the production's Western context. The photograph is kept as an ensemble image, allowing the relationship between the adult and young actor to remain visible rather than presenting an isolated crop as a different original.
In the fantasy feature Jack the Giant Killer, released in 1962, Mobley played Peter. The American Film Institute identifies Nathan Juran as director, Edward Small as producer and United Artists as distributor. Kerwin Mathews plays Jack and Barry Kelley plays Sigurd. The gallery's trailer frame shows those two actors with Mobley between them. This is a separate production and source from The Wide Country photograph. The film's principal photography took place in 1960, according to AFI's production history, so the 1962 label denotes the release year rather than an asserted date for filming the pictured scene.
Gallegher first aired in three parts on January 24, January 31 and February 7, 1965, directed by Byron Paul. Mobley's character is a newspaper copyboy in 1889 who wants to become a reporter and becomes involved in investigations. Disney's cast record places him with Edmond O'Brien as Jefferson Crowley, Harvey Korman as Brownie and Ray Teal as Snead. The young character's wish to participate in the newspaper's work supplies the premise for his adventures. His name is spelled Gallegher, and it should not be confused with an actor's surname or another similarly named series.
The original story's popularity led to The Further Adventures of Gallegher, Gallegher Goes West and The Mystery of Edward Sims. Mobley then moved into The Treasure of San Bosco Reef, a two-part Disney television production broadcast on November 24 and December 1, 1968. Directed by Robert L. Friend, it follows Dave Jones, a young man visiting his uncle in Italy who becomes involved with smugglers and a sunken wreck. James Daly, Nehemiah Persoff and John van Dreelen are also listed in Disney's cast record. This later adventure offered a new character rather than simply renaming Gallegher.
Disney's biography also credits Mobley as Gustav in Emil and the Detectives and records appearances in For the Love of Willadean and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again. After his Gallegher work, he served as a paratrooper and worked in a Texas hospital before returning for a small policeman role in The Kids Who Knew Too Much. Those later chapters sit alongside, rather than replace, his screen career. For a focused introduction, begin with Gallegher, then compare a Fury appearance and Jack the Giant Killer to see the different kinds of youthful roles he played across television and film.
Two separate productions show Mobley as a young performer: The Wide Country in studio publicity and Jack the Giant Killer in a trailer frame. The original ensembles remain visible, and the captions identify the actor's position in each image.
