Rachael Harris is an American actress and comedian known for Dr. Linda Martin in Lucifer, Sheila Sazs in Suits and Susan Heffley in the original live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid films. Her performance in Natural Selection also brought recognition in independent film. These credits offer several ways into her work: a fantasy series, a legal drama with comic relationships, family films and a character-led road story. Across them, an apparently familiar social role can become more complicated once the person occupying it has something unexpected to say.
Harris grew up in Worthington, Ohio, and studied at Otterbein College, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She later joined the Groundlings, the Los Angeles improvisation and sketch company. That background is useful context for her ensemble work, where listening and responding to another performer matter as much as delivering a line. Her television career includes correspondence for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and appearances in comedies including Friends, Frasier and Curb Your Enthusiasm. These were different assignments, rather than one continuous starring engagement.
Film work brought Harris into Christopher Guest's ensembles in Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration. Those comedies build distinctive social worlds around their subjects, from competitive dog showing to folk performance and the business of awards attention. Harris also played Melissa in The Hangover. Comparing a small part within a large ensemble with a more prominent continuing character is a useful way to follow a comic actor's career: the amount of screen time changes, but a performance still has to establish a recognisable person within the scene.
Natural Selection gave Harris the central role of Linda, a woman whose journey begins with a request from her dying husband. The part earned her a Best Female Lead nomination at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards and a breakthrough-performance honour at SXSW in 2011. The film offers a different point of entry from her broader comedy appearances. A leading role allows the viewer to stay with a character through changes of setting and expectation, rather than meeting her only at the moment she interrupts or challenges someone else's story.
In the first three live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid films, Harris played Susan Heffley, Greg's mother. The role belongs to those original films, not to every later adaptation of the books. Her television work also includes Surviving Jack opposite Christopher Meloni and the recurring Sheila Sazs in Suits. Family comedy and a legal workplace series create different expectations for how adults should behave. Watching Harris within those settings makes it possible to notice how an authoritative manner can become part of a joke without making every character the same person.
Lucifer cast Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, a therapist whose conversations with the title character bring an ordinary professional setting into a supernatural story. The role gives dialogue and reaction a central place within a series that also contains investigations and fantasy spectacle. In 2023 she played Nora in the first season of the newer Goosebumps television adaptation. Disney's production record identifies that character and cast specifically. This is a separate production from the earlier Goosebumps television series and the feature films, even though they draw on the same author's larger collection of stories.
A viewing route through Harris' career might pair Natural Selection with episodes of Lucifer, then turn to the ensemble comedy of Best in Show or the family perspective of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Each places a different weight on the character's point of view. The gallery accompanies that record with two independent photographs: a Tribeca Film Festival appearance in 2007 and a Lucifer panel at WonderCon in 2017. These are public appearances by Harris herself. They are not stills depicting Linda, Susan or another fictional role, and the captions retain their actual event context.
