Nicole Eggert is an American actress associated with two very different television settings: the family sitcom Charles in Charge and the beach-rescue drama Baywatch. She played Jamie Powell in the former and lifeguard Summer Quinn in the latter. Her career began in childhood and later extended to reality television, podcasting and documentary production. The 2024 series After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun gave her a role behind the camera as a producer, revisiting the programme that had become a lasting part of her public identity.
Born in Glendale, California, in 1972, Eggert began appearing on screen as a child. Her early work included When She Was Bad and Rich and Famous. She later played Marci Ferguson, a friend of Samantha Micelli, in Who's the Boss?, before joining Charles in Charge as Jamie Powell in 1987. The sitcom role continued through 1990. These credits show a career already well established before Baywatch, with experience in family comedy as well as films and television drama. Jamie and Summer belong to different phases of that progression.
Eggert played Summer Quinn during Baywatch's third and fourth seasons, from 1992 to 1994, and returned in the 2003 reunion film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding. Her own account of joining the programme provides a useful distinction between the role she played and a project that did not develop as planned. In an interview with Steve Kmetko for Still Here Hollywood, she recalled Charles in Charge producer Al Burton discussing a proposed youth-oriented beach spin-off with her. She described becoming part of Baywatch as the existing syndicated programme continued instead.
That interview also gave Eggert room to look back on how the programme shaped expectations of her work. She recalled leaving after two seasons and hoping that a change of direction would loosen the association between herself and the show's image. Those are her retrospective observations about her career, rather than a measure of the programme's quality or its audience. They help explain why returning to the subject decades later could involve more than nostalgia: the familiar screen character and the working actress's experience were not always the same story.
After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun premiered on Hulu in August 2024. ABC's production announcement identifies Matthew Felker as director and executive producer and Eggert as a producer. Its four parts brought together interviews with more than thirty-five cast members and creators, alongside previously unseen material and cast home videos. Participants included Alexandra Paul, Billy Warlock, Gregory Alan Williams, Carmen Electra and others. The project therefore assembled many accounts of the series rather than presenting one performer's memories as the complete history of its production and popularity.
At the documentary's television press panel, Eggert explained that she had initially explored a project with other women from the show, but versions of it kept moving toward reality television. According to the panel report, Felker's suggestion of a documentary offered a better fit, and her first call was to David Hasselhoff. That account identifies a practical contribution to the project: helping bring former colleagues into a retrospective conversation. Her later ABC interview similarly framed the new series as a chance to revisit Baywatch's legacy, adding a producer's perspective to her earlier acting credit.
The gallery uses two separately dated photographs by Rob DiCaterino, taken at Chiller Theatre events in Parsippany, New Jersey, in April 2014 and October 2017. They show Eggert at public appearances long after the original runs of Charles in Charge and her Baywatch seasons. The images are not production stills, and the credits retain their individual dates and locations. Together with the selected screen roles and the later documentary, they trace how an actress can remain connected to familiar characters while taking on a different part in telling their history.
Two distinct photographs from Chiller Theatre appearances in 2014 and 2017, both credited to Rob DiCaterino.
