Kimiko Glenn is an American actress and singer whose career includes ensemble television, Broadway and an extensive range of animated performances. She played Brook Soso in Orange Is the New Black and originated Dawn in the Broadway production of Waitress. Her voice roles include Peni Parker in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Niffty in Hazbin Hotel. These credits bring together live-action characterization and musical performance with work in which an animated figure, rather than the actor's own face, carries the visible action.
Glenn's theatre background includes the first national tour of Spring Awakening and the title role in Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots at La Jolla Playhouse. In 2016 she made her Broadway debut as Dawn in Waitress, with the original cast led by Jessie Mueller. The Broadway League records her engagement separately from the later performers who took over Dawn. That distinction matters for a musical with several productions and casts: Glenn's role belongs specifically to the original Broadway staging, not every version of the character.
Orange Is the New Black brought Glenn to a large television ensemble as Brook Soso. Netflix's retrospective describes Soso's difficulty adjusting to life in Litchfield and her attempts to bring activism into the prison. The role develops through relationships rather than functioning only as a comic introduction. Glenn shared three Screen Actors Guild ensemble awards with the cast, as her studio biography records. Those are collective performance honours, a useful reminder that the series' effect depends on interactions among many characters and performers.
Waitress offered a different kind of ensemble. Dawn works alongside Jenna and Becky, with songs and dialogue forming a continuing account of friendship, anxiety and changing possibilities. Glenn's singing belongs to the character's situation, rather than being separate from the acting. Comparing this stage work with Soso makes differences in scale easier to hear and see: a theatre audience and a television camera create different conditions, but both require a clear relationship between what a character wants and how she responds to other people.
Animation widened the range of settings in Glenn's career. She voiced Peni Parker in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and her television voice credits include Close Enough, DuckTales, Carmen Sandiego and BoJack Horseman. Warner Bros. Discovery's biography identifies her Close Enough character as Bridgette. These productions do not share one intended audience or visual style, so they should be treated as separate assignments. Vocal timing has to work with animation and editing, allowing a performer to contribute a recognizable character without appearing physically in the finished scene.
Hazbin Hotel added Niffty and Susan to Glenn's voice roles in the Prime Video series. The adult animated musical combines dialogue with song, connecting aspects of her stage experience with recording work. Her on-camera credits also include Nerve, In Reality, The Guest Book and Liza on Demand. In 2018 she wrote, directed and produced the short And All That Jazz: A Day in the Life of Roxanne Gayhart. That credit extends the career beyond acting while remaining distinct from the larger productions in which she performs.
A viewing route through Glenn's work can move from Orange Is the New Black to the Waitress cast recording and then to an animated performance such as Peni Parker. The change of medium helps reveal different uses of rhythm, expression and musical phrasing. This gallery documents two convention appearances, Richmond in 2024 and San Jose in 2025. Both images show Glenn herself and retain their event descriptions, creators and licenses. They accompany the selected career record without being presented as stills of Soso, Dawn or any animated character.
