Erin Murphy is the actor remembered for playing Tabitha Stephens, the young daughter in Bewitched. Her career began in childhood, but later work includes television hosting, correspondence and new acting appearances. The long life of Bewitched in reruns makes Tabitha an enduring point of recognition. It also means that photographs of Murphy as an adult belong to a career extending well beyond the years when she performed in the Stephens family living room.
Erin and her twin sister Diane were born in Encino, California, in 1964. A preserved studio biography dates their audition for Tabitha to May 1966, shortly before their second birthday. They initially shared the character. Erin continued with the series through 1972. The early credit therefore needs two distinctions: she did not join when Bewitched first began in 1964, and the role was not originally hers alone.
Bewitched places magical abilities inside an apparently ordinary suburban family. Elizabeth Montgomery plays Samantha, married to advertising executive Darrin Stephens; their daughter Tabitha inherits powers that can disrupt the adults' plans. Murphy's scenes participate in that family comedy rather than standing apart as a separate children's show. The Television Academy history also distinguishes the later Tabitha spinoff: Lisa Hartman played the grown character in that series. It was not a continuation with Murphy in the lead.
In a 2014 interview, Murphy recalled working for three years with each of the two Darrins, Dick York and Dick Sargent. She described the cast as an extended family and remembered Agnes Moorehead with particular affection. Those recollections add a performer's perspective to the casting history. When revisiting the show, compare Tabitha's exchanges with Samantha, Endora and her father: each adult relationship gives the child a different place in the comedy.
Murphy identified episodes involving other children, animals and storybook adventures among her favorites. She singled out Sisters at Heart, a Christmas story addressing prejudice. That makes a specific starting point for rediscovery alongside the better-known visual business of disappearing objects and magical gestures. The 1971 publicity photograph in the gallery gathers Murphy with Montgomery, Sargent and David Lawrence. It is a posed cast image, not evidence of a particular scene or episode.
After Bewitched, Murphy continued with commercials and guest appearances including Lassie. In later interviews she discussed work as a correspondent and television host, as well as experience behind the camera in casting and other production jobs. TV Insider's later interview identifies The Comeback Kids and Life Interrupted among her subsequent acting credits. These activities give a broader picture than the familiar shorthand of a child performer disappearing when a single series ended.
Her public interviews also show how an actor can remain connected to a childhood role without being frozen at that age. She has spoken warmly of fans who recognize her and of opportunities that followed the program's lasting visibility. A useful viewing path begins with Tabitha inside the Bewitched ensemble and then moves to her later screen appearances and interviews. The dated portrait and gallery distinguish the original production period from adult photographs, with separate source and license records.
