Elise Neal is an American actress whose career spans musical theater, television comedy and feature films. Viewers may recognize her as Hallie in Scream 2, Yvonne Hughley in The Hughleys or Kathryn Munson in Logan. Those roles occupy very different kinds of stories: a self-aware horror sequel, a domestic sitcom and a late chapter in a superhero's journey. Neal's work across these formats makes her a useful performer to revisit beyond the single title through which a viewer first encountered her.
Neal grew up in Memphis and trained as a dancer, beginning with ballet before moving toward musical theater. She attended Overton High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and studied at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. New York brought theater work, including the 1990 Broadway revival of Oh, Kay! associated with Maurice Hines. Commercials and screen acting followed. Her early television work included Law & Order and Loving, providing a path from live performance into recurring and regular television roles.
Scream 2 is a particularly memorable point of entry. Released in 1997 and directed by Wes Craven, the sequel follows Sidney Prescott into college life after the events of the first film. Neal plays Hallie, Sidney's friend and roommate. That relationship gives Hallie an immediate place in Sidney's everyday world before the new attacks transform the campus. Neal is part of a group of new performers introduced alongside returning cast members, so her role belongs specifically to the second film rather than the original Scream.
The same period demonstrates the breadth of Neal's screen assignments. Rosewood placed her in John Singleton's historical drama, while Money Talks paired her with the comic world surrounding Chris Tucker. Restaurant brought an independent-film romance into the mix. On television she played Lieutenant J.J. Fredricks in the seaQuest franchise before becoming Yvonne in The Hughleys. The shift from a science-fiction setting to a family sitcom illustrates how her career moved between genre conventions, with the demands of a recurring character distinct from those of a feature-film supporting part.
In The Hughleys, Neal's Yvonne is married to the successful suburban father played by D.L. Hughley. Their household provides the continuing basis for the comedy, and the series ran on ABC before moving to UPN. Her later regular television credits include All of Us and Belle's. Together these roles represent a sustained strand of television work alongside the films. For viewers tracing her career, the sitcom performances offer time with a character over multiple episodes, rather than the compressed introduction and resolution of a movie appearance.
Neal's subsequent screen work includes Hustle & Flow, for which she received an NAACP Image Award supporting-actress nomination, and the role of Gladys Knight in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. In 2017 she appeared as Kathryn Munson in Logan. She also participated in Hollywood Divas and has worked as a producer; TV Guide records her producing and acting involvement in The White Sistas. These credits extend the story beyond the late-1990s breakthrough and show her continued movement between television, independent projects and studio filmmaking.
A varied Neal retrospective might pair Scream 2 with The Hughleys, then turn to Rosewood, Hustle & Flow and Logan. The purpose is to see the different relationships and narrative functions attached to her characters, rather than to treat each film as a variation on Hallie. Her dance and stage background is another part of that professional history. The gallery uses two distinct photographs: a later credited portrait and a 2008 fashion-show appearance. Neither is presented as a scene from one of the films or series discussed here.
Two distinct credited photographs document Neal outside her screen roles. The gallery does not use duplicate crops as separate career images.
