Danielle Pinnock is an American actress, comedian and writer whose career connects documentary theater, television ensembles and original online comedy. She is widely recognized as Alberta in Ghosts and as Ms. Ingram in Young Sheldon. Her work before those series included training in the United States and Britain and the creation of a solo stage piece built from interviews. That combination of observing real people and inventing comic characters remains useful context for a performer whose work appears in both short sketches and sustained television roles.
Raised in northern New Jersey in a Jamaican-American family, Pinnock studied communications and theater at Temple University before pursuing graduate acting study at Birmingham School of Acting. Birmingham City University dates her graduation to 2012. In its alumni profile, she explained that her undergraduate work had emphasized directing and that she wanted to develop her acting further. The experience also fulfilled a long-standing wish to study in England. Her account emphasizes practical training and working with teachers from different theater backgrounds, rather than presenting television success as an immediate starting point.
Body/Courage grew from her graduate dissertation into a documentary solo performance about body image and acceptance. The project developed through interviews, with its later version drawing on more than three hundred people's accounts. Pinnock performed the voices and experiences herself, using one actor to carry a range of perspectives. An early version earned a best-actress prize at the 2013 Strawberry One Act Theatre Festival, and the work reached Chicago in 2016. The production establishes her as a writer and researcher as well as an interpreter of someone else's script.
Pinnock's screen work includes recurring appearances in Young Sheldon and Get Shorty, alongside guest roles in This Is Us, Scandal and A Black Lady Sketch Show. She has also worked in animation, with credits including The Boss Baby: Back in Business, ThunderCats Roar and Where's Waldo? With LaNisa Renee Frederick, she co-created Hashtag Booked, an online sketch series about the experiences of Black actors navigating the entertainment business. Those short pieces draw comedy from auditions and professional expectations, giving the collaborators a venue for material they created themselves.
Ghosts introduced Pinnock's Alberta in 2021 as a Prohibition-era jazz singer sharing a house with spirits from other periods. In a 2022 CNN interview, Pinnock described assembling her audition costume at home during the pandemic, using a wig, a hat and a faux-fur shawl to suggest Alberta's personality. She also discussed taking singing and dancing lessons for the role and wanting to honor earlier Black performers. The character's confidence is central to the comedy, while her vulnerability gives the performance room to develop beyond a single exaggerated mannerism.
In 2026 Pinnock joined The Whoopi Monologues at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, directed by Whitney White. The production divided material associated with Whoopi Goldberg's solo performances among an ensemble including Dominique Fishback, Kecia Lewis, Kerry Washington and Kara Young. Pinnock's role was the Jamaican Lady. In an interview about the production, she described seeing recorded theater at the Lincoln Center Library when she was younger and later seeking an audition for this project. She connected the role to her documentary-theater background and to the possibility of making an immigrant character fully human through humor and feeling.
The theater engagement followed her 2025 NAACP Image Award for supporting actress in a comedy series for Ghosts, recognition recorded in Lincoln Center Theater's casting announcement. The gallery documents two distinct public stages of her career: Philip Romano's October 2022 New York Comic-Con photograph and his July 2026 opening-night portrait for The Whoopi Monologues. They are event photographs rather than scenes from either production. Their separate dates and settings preserve the difference between a television convention appearance and the opening of a theater engagement, with the original source and license records retained.
