Chris Perfetti is an American actor whose work spans contemporary theatre, television drama and ensemble comedy. He is widely known as Jacob Hill in Abbott Elementary, but his stage career was already established before that series introduced him to a larger television audience. Trained at SUNY Purchase, he has worked in Broadway revivals, new plays and independent films. The combination provides a useful context for a performer whose best-known character is often comic while much of his earlier work occupies different dramatic territory.
An important early stage credit was Stephen Karam's Sons of the Prophet at Roundabout Theatre Company. Perfetti received a Theatre World Award for his New York stage debut in that production. Subsequent theatre work included Broadway revivals of Picnic and Six Degrees of Separation, as well as productions at the Public Theater, Atlantic Theater Company and other New York companies. These credits place his professional development within a sustained theatre practice rather than treating the sitcom as the beginning of his acting career.
Abbott Elementary casts Perfetti as Jacob Hill, a teacher whose eagerness to connect with others can lead to awkward exchanges. He works within a Philadelphia school ensemble created by Quinta Brunson. Jacob's good intentions and the effects of his delivery do not always line up, leaving room for both jokes and more sympathetic moments. When revisiting the series, watch how Perfetti lets an attempted explanation become increasingly uncomfortable, and how a colleague's response changes the rhythm of the scene.
Perfetti's earlier television roles include Tim Fletch in Crossbones, Brady in Looking and Ben in In the Dark. These programmes differ substantially in setting and tone from Abbott Elementary. Crossbones places him in a historical adventure ensemble, while Looking belongs to a contemporary character drama. The comparison is useful because it separates the actor's range from the traits associated with Jacob. An actor recognizable from a successful comedy can have a substantial record of work that does not use the same comic approach.
His film appearances include The Surrogate, Minyan and The Virtuoso. Alongside screen work, he returned to a major stage assignment in Rajiv Joseph's King James, directed by Kenny Leon. That play connects friendship with basketball fandom and gave Perfetti another sustained two-person dramatic relationship to explore. His ABC biography records the production's Chicago, Los Angeles and New York life. These engagements demonstrate the continued importance of live performance during a period when television recognition was expanding.
The photographs here show Perfetti attending two separate Broadway opening nights: The Picture of Dorian Gray in 2025 and Proof in 2026. Attendance is the documented context; neither image is being presented as evidence that he performed in those productions. Keeping that distinction clear allows event photography to illustrate a career without inventing a credit. Both photographs are by Philip Romano, with their individual source records and Creative Commons terms retained beside the locally hosted images and enlargement views.
A useful route through Perfetti's work begins with Jacob Hill and then moves to Looking or an independent film before exploring his theatre record. That approach gives the familiar comic role a wider frame. The stage and screen credits here are selected milestones, not a complete catalogue of every performance. They show an actor moving between ensemble television, smaller films and live productions, while the gallery documents public appearances separately from the fictional characters and theatrical roles discussed in the biography.
