Charlie Tahan is an American actor whose work connects childhood film appearances with the troubled young adults of independent movies and television drama. Ozark gave him a sustained role as Wyatt Langmore, while Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie featured his voice as Victor Frankenstein. His résumé also includes I Am Legend, Charlie St. Cloud, Gotham and Drunk Bus. Across those productions, he has worked in live action and animation, in major studio releases and smaller films, and in stories that approach adolescence from very different directions.
Tahan grew up in New Jersey and began working on screen as a child. In an interview with Issue Magazine, he recalled I Am Legend as his first major break and described earlier commercial work. The 2007 science-fiction film placed him alongside Will Smith in a story about survivors of a catastrophe. Later childhood and teenage credits included Charlie St. Cloud and Burning Bright. These early roles established a working film career before the television characters that would introduce him to another large audience.
Frankenweenie, released in 2012, cast Tahan as the voice of Victor, a young experimenter determined to revive his beloved dog Sparky. Disney’s feature was directed by Tim Burton and used stop-motion animation to tell its black-and-white story. Tahan’s performance belongs to this animated feature, rather than Burton’s earlier live-action short of the same name. His voice supplied the boy’s side of a story about affection, loss and the consequences of an experiment that spreads beyond its original purpose. The premiere photographs here document his participation in that production.
Television brought him into another set of unsettling fictional worlds. In Gotham he played the young Jonathan Crane, associated with the Scarecrow character, during part of the series’ development of Batman’s future adversaries. Wayward Pines cast him as Ben Burke, and his later credits included Castle Rock. These roles placed a young performer inside mysteries and genre stories built around adults’ secrets and dangerous environments. They also required a different rhythm from a self-contained feature, with characters developing through episodes and returning encounters.
Ozark began in 2017 and made Wyatt Langmore a continuing presence in its story of crime, money and family loyalties. Wyatt is Ruth Langmore’s cousin, and Tahan’s scenes connect to her story as well as to Darlene Snell’s. In Netflix’s interview about the ending, showrunner Chris Mundy discussed the difficult decisions involved in Wyatt’s final-season arc and its effect on Ruth. That discussion underlines the character’s place in the larger drama: his story carries consequences for other people, extending beyond his own screen time.
Independent film offered further changes of scale and tone. Tahan appeared in Super Dark Times and The Land of Steady Habits, and played the lead in Drunk Bus. In the latter he is Michael, a young man driving a late-night campus shuttle while uncertain about the direction of his life. His friendship with the security guard Pineapple, played by Pineapple Tangaroa, becomes central to the comedy. Directors John Carlucci and Brandon LaGanke drew on a real friendship while creating a fictional story about inertia, companionship and the possibility of moving forward.
Tahan’s credits show a performer moving from child roles into parts with greater independence and emotional complexity. Victor’s determination in Frankenweenie, Wyatt’s family ties in Ozark and Michael’s stalled adulthood in Drunk Bus belong to different genres, but each places a young person’s decisions near the center of the story. His film work also includes Poms and Love Is Strange. Looking across those titles gives a broader view than any single role, tracing the transition from early studio work to recurring television drama and independent leading performances.
