Cedric Yarbrough works across live-action comedy, voice performance, film and theater. Deputy S. Jones in Reno 911! remains one of his most recognizable characters, while Speechless placed him in a family comedy as Kenneth. His credits also extend to animated series and to dramatic films such as Juror #2. That mixture makes a career survey more useful when it follows the different forms of performance involved. A familiar comic presence can operate very differently in an improvised ensemble, a scripted family scene or a voice recording.
A Minnesotan, Yarbrough became widely known through Reno 911!, the police comedy in which he plays Deputy Jones. Goodman Theatre's career biography also lists appearances in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The House, The Boss and Black Dynamite. These projects connect his television work with several different film-comedy ensembles. They are useful milestones rather than a complete list: the point is to see how recurring television characterization can sit alongside shorter appearances that must establish a character quickly within somebody else's larger story.
Reno 911! provides an entry point through the gap between a deputy's official responsibilities and the behavior of the people supposedly carrying them out. Yarbrough's Jones is part of that ensemble. A rewatch can focus on reactions as much as spoken jokes, since a scene's rhythm depends on performers responding to one another. The two convention photographs here show Yarbrough appearing in the recognizable deputy costume at GalaxyCon Richmond in 2025. They document a public appearance and should not be confused with frames taken from the television series.
Speechless offers a different kind of comic relationship. Yarbrough plays Kenneth, who becomes an aide to J.J., a teenager with cerebral palsy, within the DiMeo family story. In an ABC interview, Yarbrough and co-star John Ross Bowie discussed the series as it began airing in 2016. The role invites attention to communication and partnership as well as jokes. Comparing Kenneth with Jones is especially useful because the humor comes from different responsibilities and relationships, even though the same performer brings his timing to both.
Animation is another substantial part of his work. Goodman Theatre's biography lists The Boondocks, BoJack Horseman, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy and Kung Fu Panda 4 among his voice credits. A voice performance reaches the audience through collaboration with animation, editing and sound rather than through the actor's photographed expression. Listening for changes in pace, emphasis and reaction offers a way to explore that strand of the career without assuming that every animated character resembles one of his live-action roles.
His work has also included producing and theater. The Television Academy lists Yarbrough as an executive-producer nominee for Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon in the 2022 Outstanding Television Movie category. That is a producing nomination, not an individual acting award. Goodman Theatre's 2026 production record identifies him as Floyd Richards in Iceboy!, bringing a live stage engagement into the career record. These credits show why the familiar television roles should be treated as important parts of a wider working life rather than its complete boundaries.
A viewing route can begin with Reno 911! and Speechless, then move to an animated credit or a film appearance to hear and see how the performance changes with the format. His later screen work includes Lucky Hank, Unfrosted and Juror #2, as documented by Goodman Theatre. The gallery preserves two separate photographs from the Richmond convention appearance, including different expressions and the use of sunglasses. Their shared event context is stated openly, while the biography supplies the wider career connections that a single public appearance cannot represent.
